DJ Marty Play was born in 1985 in Flushing, Queens. At the age of 10 him and his mother moved to Astoria, Queens. His affair with music started at a very early age. It became clear at a very early age that music was his first love.

DJ Marty Play grew up on the hip-hop of the early 90’s, listening to the sounds of radio personalities such as Kool DJ Red Alert, Funk Master Flex, Mr. Magic, and Stretch Armstrong. While growing up hearing these DJs tear up the radio waves it became clear to him that his calling was indeed to be a disc jockey.

He recalls his mother had a turntable and a small record collection. This collection included Salsa, Meringue, Soul, Motown, and Jazz. As time went on he continued listening and collecting music every chance he could. This dedication allowed him to grow a huge multi genre music library.

There were many artists that both inspired and influenced Marty in his life. They include DJ’s Jam Master Jay, AM, Kid Capri, A-Trak, Jazzy Jeff, Camilo, Q-Bert, Vice, and Scene. After hearing these DJ’s spin and energize crowds, Marty knew that he wanted to follow in their footsteps and use music to bring people joy. There style and unique ability to play all types of genres of music were what intrigued Marty were exactly the styles he wanted to emulate.

At the age of 19, DJ Marty Play purchased his 1st set of “Techincs 1200” turntables and a Rane mixer. It wasn’t long before he started spinning at house parties all over New York City.

After two years Marty’s desire to master his craft became so strong he enrolled at the world famous “Scratch DJ Academy.” He studied under legends such as DJay Jung, Rob Swift, Grand Wizard Theodore.

After graduating from school DJ Marty Play spent countless hours practicing and perfecting his technique. He started spinning again and played his way into some local and popular night clubs in the NYC area.

Soon after, he teamed up with local DJ LB-1 and the group “1200 STYLE” was born. Now 25 years old, he and DJ LB-1 (1200 STYLE) do parties on a weekly basis. Doing everything from private parties to nightclubs.

1200 STYLE is made up of 2 diverse and talented individuals who can rock any crowd. They are Open Format DJs and pride themselves on their ability to incorporate a mixture of music from every genre into their sets.
